Motorcycle INSURANCE
Motorcycle insurance is similar to how Auto Insurance works, except that it is usually much more expensive. Unless you choose the Liability-Only route.
The full motorcycle coverage normally includes:
- Collision coverage, which pays for damage to your bike if you hit something or someone, when you are at fault.
- Liability coverage, which covers only the cost of property damages and injuries to others when you are at fault.
- Uninsured driver coverage pays for your damages, if you got hit by an uninsured driver
- Underinsured driver coverage pays for your damage, if you get hit by a driver with insufficient insurance coverage
- Theft of your bike
- Fire damage, Water damage, etc.
Additional coverages are usually offered for:
- Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is a form of No-Fault insurance, which helps you with paying for medical bills that are not covered by the health insurance plan. PIP pays out regardless of who is at fault.
- Laid-up Insurance – covers the motorcycle from theft, fire, and other threats while it is in storage. It usually significantly reduces the premium cost of insurance during the Laid-up period.
- Passenger Coverage provides coverage for motorcycle passengers. Unlike auto insurance, basic motorcycle insurance covers only the driver, so if you plan on carrying passengers – you should insure them. Or they could sue you for damages.
- Roadside Assistance is a commonly added option for motorcycle riders. Nobody wants to gets stuck on the side of the road with no way to replace a tire.
- Accessory Coverage is to protect the custom accessories mounted on the bike. This option is mostly popular with the cruisers. Not so much with sport bikes.
